Stoke on Trent City Council is responsible for a wide range of services in the city and for the collection of council tax and business rates. The council executive is made up of the Elected Mayor, and the interim Council Manager and Chief Executive Officer.  In practice, most of the everyday decisions will be taken by council officers. is responsible for making sure that buildings are properly designed and constructed in accordance with health & safety regulations..Planning applications are required for the change in use or development of land and planning enforcement is the responsibility of the Planning Committee of the Council.
